In its respect for nature, Laboratorios MIXIM is interested in the preservation of overexploited medicinal plants. Though the process is slow and expensive, it offers tangible benefits. The Micropropagation Laboratory has been installed with the purpose of multiplying and domesticating wild medicinal plants in order to initiate their cultivation. Using biotechnology as the tool for this purpose, field cultivation has already been started, thus preserving wild species.
Micropropagation consists in vegetative multiplication by means of organs, tissues and cells isolated from a plant and grown in vitro. With this technology, it is possible to recover medicinal plants from the fields and multiply them until obtaining an amount sufficient to cover a determined area of growth. Our micropropagation of Mexican Valeriana, may be the only hope for the survival of a species that could very soon disappear from its original habitat.
After all, nature has no equal. |
